The European Rhinologic Society now numbers more than 3000 full and junior members and is a thriving community representing Rhinology not just in Europe, but across the whole world
We’re pleased to report the successful conclusion of our biannual Congress, which was held this year on 22-25 of June in Budapest. We welcomed 2,097 registered participants and received positive feedback from the attendees. We had more than 250 faculty members under the leadership of Scientific president Christian Betz and Congress president Zsolt Bella. It was an exciting, informative meeting and a perfect place to renew and to make new friendships.
The Congress has featured the dissection program running throughout the 3 1/2 days, as well as 8 parallel sessions of symposia, round tables and instructional sessions and more than 400 oral presentations. The best of the oral presentations was embedded within the main program. We hope that this new feature has given the leaders of the future an opportunity to present to a large audience. Plenary sessions focused on surgeon’s wellbeing- an often-neglected topic, as a tribute to our late Treasurer, Peter Valentin Tomazic and were highly attended. The opening ceremony on Sunday was followed by the Congress party at the Hung expo venue. The ERS juniors group hosted a social event on Monday, and the faculty dinner took place on Tuesday night in the museum of fine arts in Budapest. Outside of the Congress, Budapest had much to offer, and the sun was shining, but the rooms remained full until the final session as the scientific program had a lot to offer, and the challenge was to decide which session to go to. The dissection programme has been recorded and will be made available after the meeting for those who registered, creating a valuable and lasting resource.
Work is already underway to ensure that the 31st Congress to be held in Seville on 20-23 June 2027 under the leadership of Ramon Moreno Luna, builds on the success of our meetings, which are now the largest rhinological meetings worldwide.
To bridge the gap between our biannual meetings, we launched an online Rhino-Refresher course. The first meeting, chaired by our educational lead Marlene Speth last September, had a strong attendance throughout a full day of live-streamed content. This initiative ensures access to high-quality education for those unable to travel to a congress in person. In addition, Marlene regularly delivers webinars throughout the year, helping members stay current with the latest developments. We are always looking to further develop the Society, to bring new, enthusiastic members to our Executive Committee and to help to improve our Congresses. We will be launching a new International Committee to help build links with other societies and will soon be looking to appoint a new Scientific President for 2027, so this is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to shape the future of Rhinology.
