The Slovak Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (SSO)

Founded in 1969, the Slovak Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (SSO) emerged when the Slovak branch of the Czech-Slovak Society of Otorhinolaryngology, initially established in 1953, became an independent society. Today, the SSO proudly represents nearly 500 members and encompasses 11 specialized sections, including Audiology, Otology, Rhinology, Phoniatrics, Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, Speech Therapy, Oncology, Otoneurology, Private Practice Otorhinolaryngology, and Young ENT Practitioners.

The Society’s website, www.sso.sk, provides essential information on its activities and upcoming events.

Each year in September, the SSO hosts a national congress. Every second year, this congress is organized in collaboration with the Czech Society as the Czech-Slovak ENT Congress, held alternately in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This joint congress draws a substantial number of domestic and international participants. The most recent, the 10th Czech-Slovak Congress, took place in Bratislava in September 2024, under the leadership of Associate Professor Miroslav Tedla. This event was highly successful, featuring a diverse scientific and social program and prominent international speakers, with over 600 registered participants.

The upcoming Czech-Slovak Congress in 2025 will be hosted in Prague as part of the 31st Congress of the Union of European Phoniatricians, presided over by Associate Professor Jan Bouček.

In addition to the main congress, every two years, the SSO co-organizes a Czech-Slovak congress dedicated to young ENT professionals under 35, held alternately in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The SSO also organizes various specialized courses and smaller events throughout the year.

The SSO is a dynamic society with a long-standing commitment to the education and well-being of its members.
